The Police Department would like to thank all the citizens for partnering with us this past year.  We have been recognized nationally for our efforts, which would not have been possible without your involvement.  Our roads are safer and our crime rate is lower, but we continue to need your input in order to do our job better.  Anyone that would like to start a neighborhood watch should contact the Department.  Remember during this holiday season to lock your doors when you leave your home, don’t leave packages in plain view while shopping.  And please, don’t drink and drive.  Be safe and have a Happy New Year.

 Public works department

201 Hammond Avenue, Mount Carmel, TN  37645  ·  357-6051

We would like to remind everyone that brush & large items are now being picked up at the same time.  We begin on the west end of Town on Thursday of each week and travel on each street until we have covered the entire Town.  There may be times we are delayed due to large amounts of brush and large items, but we will get to you as soon as possible.  We would like to remind everyone that we DO NOT pick up brush and large items that have been contracted such as cutting trees or remodeling work.  This is a service we provide to our citizens -- not to contractors.  If possible, please pile your brush in one direction away from fences, mailboxes, power lines, or any decorations in your yard.  Remember the items we CANNOT pick up are: oil, paint, chemicals, tires, microwave ovens, appliances with Freon, asphalt shingles, and batteries.

We are in the process of making two new beautiful Welcome to Mount Carmel signs to be placed at each end of our Town limits.  We want the citizens of Mount Carmel to be proud of their Town.  Hopefully, we will have the new signs up very soon!

Don’t forget we have relocated our recycling bins to the Public Works Department parking lot, which is open from 7am – 4pm Monday through Friday.  Please do not place grass clippings or trash in the recycling bins.

  ALLIED WASTE  · Garbage Service

2825 Carters Valley Road, Church Hill, TN  37642  · 357-6777

BFI recently changed its name to Allied Waste.  Allied Waste only picks up household garbage placed in your can as contracted by the Town of Mount Carmel. Please do not place brush, leaves, tires, paint, batteries, chemicals, building materials, metal, or used oil, in your can.  Please see the Public Works Department section on items that they will pick up curbside.

  New paving

We are in the process of paving nine streets this budget year.  Already completed are Ruthbrooke Drive, Woodland Avenue, Brooketon Drive, Viola Circle, Katie Circle, and West Ellis Lane. We also have made significant repairs to Redwood Street. In the spring we will be completing Walnut Street, Chestnut Street, and a portion of Dover Avenue.  Hopefully next budget year we will be paving even more streets.

STORMWATER MANAGMENT

The state requires us to minimize pollutants entering waterways and water tables.  You can help by letting us know about soapy or gray water in ditches; mud in streets; or doing a few simple things such as turning your lawn mower outflow toward the lawn instead of into the street or cleaning up the clippings that get in the street, making sure that old drainage connections are to the sewer or tank and fill bed, etc.  Call 612-8119 or send an e-mail to vincepishner@yahoo.com with questions and/or comments.  Your help is appreciated.
